Brian Burke announced Saturday that the Leafs have made their first round of cuts to their training camp roster.
The following players were assigned to the Toronto Marlies: Alex Berry, Darryl Boyce, Josh Engel, Andrew Engelage, Tom Galvin, Stefano Giliati, Richard Greenop, Juraj Mikus, Dale Mitchell, Phil Oreskovic, Todd Perry, James Reimer, Kyle Rogers, Joe Ryan, Greg Scott, Robert Slaney, and Mikhail Stefanovich.
The Maple Leafs assigned the following players to their respective junior clubs: Jesse Blacker (Windsor – OHL), Joel Champagne (P.E.I. – QMJHL), and Brandon Manning (Chilliwack – WHL).
Bill Thomas and Juha Uotila have been released from their Professional Try-Out contracts.
No big surprises as of yet outside of maybe defenseman Barron Smith and forward Tim Brent still being with the big club. Nazem Kadri and Viktor Stalberg have been very impressive all through camp, the same can be said for puck moving defenseman Carl Gunnarsson but all three would be a shock to make the NHL team this season.
